Stockholm travel guide

Located on the eastern shore of Sweden where the waters of Lake Malaren meet the Baltic Sea , the city-archipelagos spreads over fourteen islands and the nearby continental area. It is the country's most important commercial, financial and cultural center. An intricate web of bridges of all sizes and shapes and various nautical means of transportation connect the islands and carry the tourists over the city's liquid boulevards around hundreds of museums, galleries and different Stockholm landmarks.

Stockholm Landmarks

  • The Royal Palace is among the largest palaces in Europe and although being a historical monument is still used by the Royal Family and the Royal Court . This unique royal residence and work place was designed by architect Nicodemus Tessin as a Roman palace and it has seven floors with more five hundred rooms and an impressive courtyard. Attractions also include three museums inside the Palace: the Kronor Museum , the Treasury and Gustav Ill's Museum of Antiquities .
  • The Stockholm City Hall is the annual host if the Nobel Prize Banquet. One of the foremost landmarks of Stockholm , the building in the city middle impresses by stature and amazing interior halls: the Golden Hall and the Blue Hall used for the Nobel events, the Ovale, the Gallery of the Prince and the Council chambers.
  • Drottningholm Palace is where the royal family actually lives but some of the Palace and the surrounding areas are open to the public. Visitors will be enchanted by the Chinese Pavilion, the palace theatre or walks through the splendid palace gardens surrounding the building.

Stockholm Museums

 
 
  • Swedish Museum of Natural History has a world-class collection ranging from fossils to animals and plants. Dedicated to the diversity of the nature, it contains exhibits gathered from all around the world; it is considered to be the most popular museum in Stockholm and one of the finest of this type worldwide.
  • The Nobel Museum located in an 18 th century building, exemplifies a hundred years of mankind achievement and breakthroughs that concurred to the development of modern society as we know it. Visitors can find out more about the Nobel award, its initiator, Alfred Nobel, who it was conferred to along the years and their accomplishments. This is done by photographic and video materials, as well as artifacts on display.
  • Moderna Museet - Museum of Modern Art presents a 20 th century assortment of modern works unique in Europe structured into chronological periods The collection consists of tens of thousands of items that include paintings, sculpture, water paintings and photos and is located in one of the most beautiful constructions in the world drawn by Spanish architect Rafael Moneo.
  • Nationalmuseum is located across the Royal Palace and is the largest museum not only in Stockholm , but in the entire country. Courtesy to its two major benefactors, Carl Gustaf Tessin and King Gustaf III, the collection includes pieces of art from the 16 century to more modern artists. The exhibit contains invaluable masterpieces signed by masters like Renoir, Rubens, Goya, Rembrandt and other famous Swedish artists like Anders Zorn or Carl Larsson.
